Surf contest “Light amateur meetup” 2020
Date: 30 August 2020
iCard is the general sponsor of the second edition of the non-professional surfing competition. The extreme contest drew in 20 contenders and hundreds of people enjoying the last days of summer on “Kabakum” beach in Varna.
For a second consecutive year, the amateur meetup is gathering big wave enthusiasts and the theme is “Hawaiian surf.” Varna’s emblematic beach “Kabakum” once again does not disappoint and the waves are big – making this contest possible at the date organizers envisioned as the perfect one – 30 August 2020.
The competition, organised by Adrian Ogniyanov and Milen Vichev, is the only one of its kind on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and surfing is still quite an unusual sport for the region. The contest takes participants through 3 qualification rounds while the judges look for a number of wave catches, style, tricks, turns and class.
This year’s winner is Chris Nagy, who appears to have some Hawaiian experience, reaches the top and wins the grand prize – a handmade surfboard provided by iCard. A lot more presents go into the hands of contenders and spectators alike.
iCard unites efforts with surfers not only to organize the contest but also for a meaningful cause – cleaning up the sea from plastics.
Among the goals of this partnership with “Light amateur meetup” are encouraging sports and outdoor activities, caring for the environment, taking people together to see something new and turning the Black Sea coast into an attractive surfing destination.
