Your crypto assets are held in custody by Bitpanda GmbH, authorised under MiCAR to provide custody and administration of crypto-assets on behalf of clients. Bitpanda maintains robust security measures, including the use of cold storage solutions, and the custody arrangements are subject to regular review by an external auditor. Your crypto assets are held on a 1:1 basis and are segregated from Bitpanda's own assets at all times, in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements. Cryptocurrency is a type of digital money. The word “crypto” comes from the cryptographic techniques used to ensure that cryptocurrencies can be transacted securely. These techniques replace the need for a third party (such as a bank) to oversee transactions. Whereas traditional currencies are issued and regulated by a central authority, many cryptocurrencies rely instead on decentralized blockchain technology to review and approve transactions.
Cryptocurrencies have many potential use cases – some already real, and some still a bit theoretical. Some people also buy cryptocurrencies to hold or sell later, in the hope that their value will increase over time. Others may buy crypto because they believe in the future of decentralized finance, or want to support a specific crypto project they believe in. Before trading crypto, you should know that many cryptocurrencies are subject to extreme fluctuations in value and carry the risk of total loss of value.
The fees and cryptocurrency prices are determined by Bitpanda and depend on the type of asset you’re buying or selling.
You’ll pay 1.49% in fees on Bitcoin and 2.49% on most other cryptocurrencies. We will show you the fee and the total cost in the iCard app before you approve the transaction.

You can make up to 100 exchanges in 24 hours. The maximum amount that you can invest per day is 50 000 EUR. If you’d like to increase your limits, please contact us.
You will not be able to receive cryptocurrencies sent from outside your iCard or to send assets to other iCard users or any other external wallet. At this time, you can only buy and sell cryptocurrencies via iCard. You can’t make direct payments with them. You can only withdraw your investment by selling your assets. Then, you can use the earned revenue for payments with your iCard cards or one of the other payment methods available in iCard.
The cryptocurrency you buy via iCard is stored in a cold offline storage managed by Bitpanda GmbH. Bitpanda further ensures the security of users' cryptocurrency by managing users' private keys and safeguarding them from fraudsters. With that said, you should also do what you can to protect your iCard account.
No, the Invest module is currently only accessible via the iCard app on mobile devices. We are actively working on bringing this functionality to you in the future.

No, you don’t need an investment account or a dedicated crypto wallet. You can buy cryptocurrencies using any of your iCard accounts. Just keep in mind that if the account you use to buy or sell investment assets is in a currency different from EUR, the funds will be automatically converted using the current conversion rate. You can follow all conversion rates in real-time here.
It means that the reserve where your assets are being stored is not connected to a server or stored on a computer connected to the internet. This helps protect your assets from the outside world. All assets you invest via iCard are held by Bitpanda as a trustee – they are all 100% backed by real assets.
Investing in crypto and precious metals is possible thanks to the partnership between iCard and Bitpanda. To take advantage of it, you need to enter into a contractual relationship with Bitpanda as well. The new registration and verification process is an integral part of the additional regulatory requirements that need to be met. It’s standard, and it’s there not just for legal purposes, but also to ensure you understand the risks related to investing in crypto and precious metals. The new investment module also requires you to accept an addendum to the legal agreement for iCard.
Paying taxes on crypto gains will depend on the country you live in. We recommend you seek professional tax advice. In most countries, you may have to pay tax on the profits you make from buying and selling cryptocurrencies. Keep in mind that we are obligated to report your TAX ID to our partner Bitpanda. Yes, as soon as you sell a crypto asset, the money from the transaction is funded back to the iCard account of your choosing. You can then use it as you normally would.
